I’ve been watching ‘America’s Next Top Model‘ and I think this is what they call a beauty shot. A closeup photo of the face. Tyra Banks says that it’s all in the eyes, that they should be fierce.

Our television cabinet contains shelving to hold the audiovisual equipment. These shelves are about 25cm high, plenty of room for holding what it’s designed for, however a cat would have to almost get down its elbows and knees to fit in there.

But, we have very determined cats. The other afternoon, while entertaining friends, I heard a scrabbling noise and turned to see two remote controls come flying off the shelf. Bella had managed to crawl into the narrow space head first and was busy making space for herself and rotating her body around to face the front. I think she looks uncomfortable but she seemed to be quite content.

They must be dreaming about being big cats, sitting amidst the long grass in the savannah, surveying their kingdom. Maybe having just finished off a recent kill… a gazelle perhaps?

We brought back some organic produce from this morning’s Farmers Market at St Kilda as well as bread from both Phillipa’s (Chocolate Cherry Loaf) and Baker D Chirico (Pane di Casa) only to discover that Bella is a real foodie…

This photo was taken in the middle of the day, when Bella & Tasha can usually be found napping. We recently found out while watching a documentary about lions that big cats sleep around 20 hours each day. Our not-so-big cats sleep for most of the day too, going directly into nap mode after breakfast. Although they will occasionally wake to take a stretch or to have a sip pf water, they can quite easily nap from morning until around 4 or 5pm. They chase each other around for a little after dinner before falling onto our laps in exhaustion to catch some z’s, then do some more exploring in the middle of the night before sleeping til dawn. What a life!

I love the way that Tasha has her chin jutting out so that it hangs over the side of the bed. I think she’s learning how to pose for the camera!

We are missing our babies!

Isabella & Natasha are staying with their grandparents (my parents) while we are holidaying in Europe. Grandma & grandpa love having them over and they go out of their way to build them little play areas and cubby houses so that they won’t miss home too much. In return, the girls keep mum&dad amused by chasing each other around and by hunting down blowflies that happen to stray into the house when the door is momentarily opened. They have also been keeping mum company at night when she’s curled up on the couch watching TV.

Summer is here! (kinda) We’ve had some really warm, summery days in Melbourne of late although we’re currently experiencing a cool change - that’s Melbourne for you. We were wilting under the heat at 31C just several days ago, and our cats have been getting completely sun-drunk.

Our cats must have been doing some martial arts training - can you believe that Tasha was actually holding this position in her sleep???
